What responsibilities does a Phlebotomy Technician have?
Phlebotomy Technicians have the primary responsibility of collecting and preparing blood samples for donation or lab testing. Along with drawing patients’ blood, phlebotomists must also collect patient histories, understand various blood testing methods, and the side effects that specific medications and foods could have on blood samples.
They may work in hospitals, doctor’s offices, blood donation centers, nursing homes, clinical laboratories and other community health centers.
What is the expected salary of a Phlebotomy Technician?
As with most jobs, a Phlebotomy Technician’s expected salary can vary depending on the state, city, job location and, company size, level of education and total number of years of experience. In Ohio, Phlebotomists typically can earn from $28,000-$35,000 annually. In Toledo, Ohio specifically, the median annual salary is $30,260. No matter the company however, phlebotomists can go to work each day feeling as though they are earning an honest income that contributes to their family’s finances and the community around them.
What other benefits could I expect to receive?
Bonuses– Many companies offer annual bonuses, pay scale increases and other incentives throughout the year as a way of saying, “Thank you” to their hardworking employees.
